Making the south of Colombia more competitive is a reality with the new 83 km road corridor. We are making it possible through a 15.7 km of rehabilitation work between Rumichaca and the jurisdiction of San Juan in the municipality of Ipiales, the construction of a 62.1 km dual carriageway and the rehabilitation of 5.2 km of an existing track. In order to improve traveling times, safety and comfort to the road we are adding 2 footbridges, 7 vehicle bridges and y 12 returns.
The road has received five awards thanks to its financial model:
- Financing Innovation of the Year as well as Infrastructure Financing of the Year, awarded by the publication LatinFinance.
- COP Bond Deal of the Year, granted by the firm Bonds & Loans.
- Proximo Latin America Deals of the Year Awards 2022, in the road infrastructures category.
- IJGlobal Americas Award, in the Refinance Transport - Latin America category.
This financing process included the issue of a social bond for $262M. It is the second social bond issued by Sacyr in Colombia and the largest that has been issued in Latin America. Among other aspects, this bond has stood out for its demand, which has been twice as high as the value of the bond.
Moreover, the Rumichaca-Pasto concession constitutes a key example in terms of sustainability thanks to the development of a green project that uses coconut fiber for slope stabilization. Thus, and through the installation of 406,800 m2 of biomats composed of this material, it is possible to mitigate the damages derived from erosion, improve the soil’s absorption and enhance the growth of vegetation.
Moreover, different socio-environmental programs have been carried out around the Rumichaca-Pasto concession, which have benefited more than 17,500 people.
