Recovery of the degraded Canal del Dique ecosystems P3 project
The awarding of this P3 project constitutes a challenging opportunity for the promotion of sustainable projects. This asset focuses on the environmental restoration of Canal del Dique, in the Magdalena River (Colombia), across its 115.5 kilometres between the departments of Atlántico, Bolívar and Sucre. Furthermore, the project will also recover the connections with the swamps through hydraulic works.
Through socio-environmental principles, our team will have different goals during the life cycle of the project:
- Environmental restoration of the area’s ecosystems.
- Generation of scenarios of adaptation to climate change.
- Assurance of the hydraulics’ resources and the navigability of the river course.
- Control of flows, flooding and saline intrusion with a system of locks, dams and gates.
Apart from the environmental and systemic values, the project contemplates a social investment of 67 million euros (340,000 million of Colombian pesos), which will include the promotion of productive projects, environmental education, community strengthening, the development of the communities and job creation.
