CV-35 Turia Highway
Turia Highway has been operational since 2008 and is part of a concession agreement that ends in 2041. The highway consists of a 53 km double carriageway road with at least two lanes in each direction. The project’s revenue scheme is derived from monthly shadow tolls paid by the grantor based on actual light/heavy vehicle traffic, subject to a cap and indexed annually to inflation whilst also being subject to standard penalty and bonus payments. Besides, Sacyr developed expansion works of the highway to three two-way lanes and the duplication of the roadway on a 15.4 km stretch. These works improve the connectivity in Valencia and its metropolitan area.
The concessionaire has an operation base and a control center, from where the team's day-to-day activities are organized. This forecasting and management work, coupled with a comprehensive ITS system and more than 54 cameras, makes it possible to keep the road’s highest quality and comfort standards.
In terms of innovation, the road uses sustainable asphalt mixtures. Thus, to develop crack sealing operations and pothole repairs we already use Lazarus, a petrochemical compound variant of our road additive Bioroad. Its composition, that includes graphene-based nanomaterials and bituminous binders, permits us to improve the pavements’ resistance to fatigue cycles and enhance the useful life of the road. Additionally, through AC11 Surf, a cold mix asphalt consistent of a bituminous mixture, we ensure that the operation and treatment processes have a lower environmental impact.
In addition to the use of recycled materials, the highway also utilizes a sustainable lighting with LED technology, (which will allow a reduction of energy consumption by 60%), has upgraded the bicycle lanes in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, and reuses material derived from the track barrier at the operating site in order to promote circular economy.
