Antofagasta Hospital: a reference in the fight against COVID

Being part of a global society means we also have a global responsibility. When it comes to protecting people against a global pandemic, we are in the first line.

Sacyr Concesiones

Our colleagues from Concesionaria Salud Siglo XXI, which manages Antofagasta Hospital in Chile, have done an excellent job fighting against COVID-19. Each team of the hospital made a remarkable contribution, whether improving procedures to maintain the quality of services, attending to new sanitary requirements and preventing new infections. Our ultimate goal is always keeping the community’s best interest in mind.

Sebastián Castillo, Operation Manager, explains that “in order to limit the risks, we've gone through a series of activities, like field assessments, training, facilitation of EPPs, among others, with the goal of delivering greater security to both, our collaborators and hospital users.”

Testimonies like Francisca Cataldo’s, General Manager of Operadora Salud Siglo XXI, help us show Sacyr commitment to building a better society. "Everyone’s workload has increased and it has been a major professional challenge, since we have made available all our resources to the hospital for the implementation of new critical beds" said Cataldo.

The team behind Salud Siglo XXI, particularly those who work for the laundry, hazardous waste, janitorial, security, and food services, are instrumental in making sure the hospital. Their effort and commitment are key for offering the best care to the patients and avoid the spread of the infection. In words of Paola Méndez, Manager of Janitorial Services, “the amount of work has increased proportionally with the arrival of new patients, and even though it has been a very intense experience, we have always found a way to offer the best service we could”.

Waldo Astorga, Manager of Food Services, emphasizes “our team provides food for both employees and patients of the hospital, contributing as dietary-therapeutic support and to protect each and every one of them we make our greatest effort in order to comply with all the Covid-19 protocols.”

Our responsibility to local communities is what inspires us day in and day out. Antofagasta’s fight against COVID-19 can be summed up in the words of Igor Protasowicki, General Manager of Sociedad Concesionaria Salud Siglo XXI: “we are standing on the shoulders of giants, who are the ones who built this great hospital, and that today allow us to make the largest hospital infrastructure in northern Chile available for the delivery of clinical services with the aim of facing this pandemic".
