Camino de las Aves, protecting and enhancing Nature

Camino de las Aves is our initiative to promote nature-based tourism as a driver of development in the Buenaventura–Loboguerrero–Buga corridor, the concession project we are developing in southwestern Colombia.

Beyond improving connectivity through the dual carriageway, our goal is to unlock new economic opportunities for the communities along the corridor by harnessing the territory’s immense environmental value.

Twenty percent of the world’s bird species can be found in Colombia, the most biodiverse country in this regard, with nearly 1,966 recorded species. A very significant portion of this richness is concentrated precisely within the area surrounding our corridor. This uniqueness led us to design an initiative that transforms this biodiversity into a lever for local development through a structured birdwatching tourism model.

Camino de las Aves brings together communities, local guides, tourism ventures, and observation sites into a network that enhances the value of the region’s natural resources. It is not just about attracting visitors, but about generating sustainable income, strengthening local capacities, and building an identity rooted in biodiversity.

In addition, we incorporate circular economy principles by reusing plastic waste collected in the Bay of Buenaventura and integrating it into construction designs. This allows us to reduce environmental impacts while addressing specific local challenges. In the short and medium term, the project aims to expand toward the Pacific coast and incorporate other high-value nature experiences, such as humpback whale watching, further strengthening the corridor’s tourism offering.

With Camino de las Aves, we take another step forward in how we understand infrastructure, demonstrating how a road can become a backbone that connects a territory and creates opportunities based on its natural wealth,  helping ensure that this value endures over time.
