We Begin Construction on I‑10 to Improve the Calcasieu River Bridge

Construction of the new Calcasieu River Bridge is now underway. With works starting on Interstate 10, one of the most strategic corridors in the United States, the project enters a decisive phase. Years of planning, design and financial structuring are now being transformed into a reality that is taking shape on the ground.

Sacyr Concesiones

This milestone marks a key moment for Sacyr Concesiones. Replacing the historic bridge, which has been in service since the 1950s, is a highly complex engineering undertaking and one of the largest concession operations developed by the company to date. Due to its scale and complexity, the initiative ranks among the most significant transportation infrastructure procurements in North America in recent years.

Structured as a public‑private partnership, the concession covers the design, construction and financing of a critical section of I‑10, together with its operation and maintenance over a 50‑year period. This corridor is a backbone for passenger and freight traffic between the eastern and western United States.

The new bridge will double the capacity of the existing structure, significantly improving safety and traffic flow, while delivering infrastructure designed to meet the demands of the coming decades.

Reaching this point has required extensive coordination among public authorities, financiers, industrial partners and technical teams. It is no coincidence that the project has become the largest transportation project finance closed in 2024. Its financial structure, based on an innovative combination of public resources, private capital and the issuance of Private Activity Bonds, has positioned the Calcasieu River Bridge as an international benchmark in infrastructure financing. The project has also received numerous industry awards recognizing both the concession model and the robustness of its financial and technical solution.

Now, with construction underway, the project begins to deliver its full impact. Over the coming years, thousands of professionals will take part in building infrastructure set to become a new landmark in southwest Louisiana, driving employment, economic activity and lasting improvements in regional connectivity.

The new bridge is being consolidated as a long‑term concession asset that brings stability and sustained value to the portfolio, while demonstrating our ability to deliver highly complex projects in the world’s most demanding markets.
