Sacyr Concesiones
Five years ago, while working for another company, Luis Romero had an accident at work that would change his life. Romero was performing maintenance on one of the machines, when a coworker turned it on by accident, cutting off one of his arms.
But Luis Romero is the definition of perseverance and integration. Today, he is Safety Monitor at Sacyr Chile. “I was lucky I got the opportunity to become a part of the Sacyr team. Because of my disability I couldn’t find a job, and thanks to Sacyr I’ve been able to progress, and prove that I am capable of doing a lot on my own”, Luis says as he retells his story.
We take care of our family, our employees. When Luis accepted to be part of our team, it meant a lot to us. Strengthened by this very experience, Luis had a chance to educate others about health and safety prevention.
His story truly moved us: many workplace injuries and illnesses are predictable and preventable: we think there is much to learn from his experience overcoming challenges and his commitment to zero accidents. That is why Luis Romero's work at Sacyr is so important. He supervises that everything at a work site is under control, making sure the working conditions are up to par, that his colleagues are wearing the PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) correctly, and that all the tools and machines are in perfect working condition. For Luis his job is simple, “I make sure that the workers get back home to their families the same way that they left in the morning. I don't want what happened to me to happen to them.” he explains.
Guillermo Román, Risk Prevention Director, agrees “we are convinced that having our safety monitors, which are part of our labor inclusion, is enriching for everyone, as an organization, as a person, as a worker, we are convinced that their contribution is tremendously powerful in different aspects.”
At Sacyr we want to make sure everyone feels safe at every moment. That is why we count on an incredible group of people that makes sure everything is under control.
