Sohar Desalination Plant

The Sohar 4 IWP is a 250,000 m3/day reverse osmosis desalination plant located in the Sohar Industrial Port, 200 km west of Muscat (Oman). It is the second largest in the country.

This desalination plant was designed with one essential objective in mind: to optimize the use of water and energy. For that reason, it is operated with a high level of automation.

The publicly-owned Oman Power and Water Procurement Company awarded this project to the consortium led by Sacyr Water (51%), which also included the Oman Brunei Investment Company (25%) and Sogex Oman (24%).  A non-recourse project financing was carried out with an investment of close to 200 million euros. The principal loan was provided by local lenders.

This contract includes the design, construction, ownership, finance, operation, maintenance and purchase of water for 20 years. Operational since August 2019, the plant will provide employment to locals for years to come.

This P3 is currently managed by Sacyr Water.
